What is PestTech?

PestTech is the major event in the UK Pest Control calendar and is viewed as the largest one-day Pest Control Exhibition in Europe. With over 1000 visitors during the day the success speaks for itself. PestTech is also becoming very well known and highly regarded in the European sector. No pre-registration is required

Established in 1993 to provide the Pest Control Industry with an opportunity to come face to face with each other. Technicians can meet distributors and view first-hand the products, there are opportunities to learn about training and legislation and old friends can spend an hour or two catching up. PestTech brings together the whole industry and is the perfect opportunity for exhibitors to show delegates what they as a company can offer them, how their products work and help them with any questions that they may have.

Within the exhibition halls there is a refreshment area providing drinks, sandwiches and snacks and within the Museum complex there is a very reasonably priced restaurant that provides hot meals.

All in all, a day NOT to be missed!

The Great Debate – how will the proposed changes to the RSPH level 2 affect you?

Do you feel sometimes that the decisions which affect your work are made by people who don’t always understand your problems? Do you feel that you need to get your point across before changes are made?

Pest Control News is very aware that there are too few opportunities for consultation in the industry and so each year, during the Pest Control News workshop at Pest Tech, we highlight a subject of concern and make sure that everyone who wants to put forward their opinions has the chance.

This year, the Royal Society of Public Health must make major changes to the RSPH/BPCA certificate in pest control Level 2 if it is to remain a certificate rather than be just an award.

As a result, there will be a significant change to the main qualification for professional pest controllers in the UK.

In particular, there will be a need to increase:

The number of hours of learning that the certificate requires; and The amount of practical training that a candidate has received.

At first, the idea was to make candidates keep a work book but that idea has been shelved. So where does this leave the existing certificates; will the traditional week long course be adequate; what extra modules will be needed; and how much will all this cost in future?

The RSPH need your views. They need to understand what the industry wants. They want to get it right by talking direct with the people most involved. Remember, you can only change things by taking part in the discussion!

Come to the Pest Control News workshop during Pest Tech at the National Motor Cycle Museum, Coventry, on 4th November and let RSPH know what you think. It starts at 11.00am and may be your only chance to influence the decisions!

The Pest Control News workshop will also include a presentation by Dr Alan Buckle, Chair of the Campaign for Responsible Rodenticide Use (CRRU), who will launch the new BASIS-accredited Wildlife Aware training course. The one-day course is designed for qualified pest control technicians working in rural situations for both private and public sector employers.
